Since 1970 he has been principally concerned with industrial design. In 1973, he studied at the faculty of architecture in Venice and got hit degree with a thesis ‘Vienna from 1918 to 1934’. With his design of the Qatar Embassy in 1980 Piva garnered international attention. Among his most famous furniture pieces is the Pyramid Table, a design which places a glass surface atop inverted pyramids for legs.
